Your place in York

A charming bolthole in a vibrant and historic city centre location, The Parisi Hotel provides the perfect backdrop to a relaxing few days away. The immediate area bursting with excellent independent cafés and restaurants and nearly all the many attractions of the city are within a 10 minute walk.

Making your way to us

If you are coming by train and fancy a leisurely 20 minute stroll to the hotel, we would recommend heading towards York Minster and then taking a right leading to the ancient Fossgate and Walmgate, home to many of the best restaurants and cafés in York. Otherwise, taxi drivers from the train station will more often than not be very happy to point out places of interest as they whisk you on a 5 minute journey through the various one way systems across to us. The journey should cost around £5/£6. When you reach us, if you spotted anywhere you liked the look of, we will be more than happy to make reservations or help you decide which one to go for.

If you come by car, you can just draw up into our off-road pull-up area to the right of the hotel, with our little courtyard garden visible behind the wrought iron fence. Unload and relax before we show you the way to the offsite car parking options.

What to look out for

The exterior of the building is virtually unchanged since it was built in 1880, all mellow red bricks and gables. Sitting in the St Denys Road within the central York conservation area, the old rectory is fronted by a little wall bursting with deliciously scented rosemary hedge and flanked by a series of small trees in pots. It looks across the street to the beautiful Grade I listed St Denys Church, which houses some of the oldest stained glass in York.

Step inside

When you arrive, our team will be eagerly waiting to greet you and invite you into the generous Victorian hallway and beyond. Modern art meets original features, a mishmash of colours and fabrics combine to produce a warm yet contemporary feel. Check in takes no time at all, with a brief skip through the hotel to help you get your bearings.

In the rectory's former dining room, now extended into a light and bright conservatory, you can enjoy breakfast. It is served each morning from 7.30am to 9.30am during the week and between 8am and 10am at the weekends and bank holidays. You will find more details of our locally and ethically sourced breakfast options within the 'breakfast' pages.

On the other side of the entrance hall, in the former formal sitting room you will find the library sitting room. Flanked with books, light floods in through the large picture windows during summer and in winter it is a cosy space, fire-lit and protected by original wooden shutters. A selection of magazines, books and board games can happily help while away an idle afternoon. We host exhibitions in the public spaces from time to time.

A doorway leads from the library out to our small courtyard garden, filled with aromatic and bee-friendly plants, comfy rattan sofas, wooden benches and little tables. A lovely space to enjoy your morning coffee or why not bring a favourite bottle of wine with you (or pop by nearby Waitrose or M&S) and enjoy a glass of something as the sun goes down.

Your holiday begins

Once you have checked in, your holiday begins. Check in is from 3pm, but if you arrive before this you are more than welcome to leave your bags and relax in the public areas with a cup of tea or coffee or head straight off to explore York.

A sweeping cast iron staircase leads to the ten first floor bedrooms. You will find the Grand room handily located on the ground floor off the reception hall-way.

Being an historic building, we do not have a lift but are always more than happy to help our guests with their bags.

We want you to feel at home throughout your stay and our staff will give you as much or as little attention as you would like.

Au revoir

On your last day, check out is up until 11am. If you came by car, you would be welcome to drive round and use our pull up area in order to load bags before setting off. If you came by train, we can call you a cab or show you the best route to the train station. Either way, you are more than welcome to leave your bags with us if you would like to make the most of the day in York and we will lock them away securely.
